Walmart gives Hosanna $500 Grant!
Walmart is giving $500 to Hosanna for our 2010 Angel Tree Program.
More information on the Angel Tree Program is below:
The Angels are coming! Yes, it is that special time of year when we realize that it is in giving that we truly receive!
An estimated 1.7 million children in the United States currently have a father or mother behind prison bars. Even though these children have done nothing wrong, they are frequently stigmatized by shame, poverty and family instability.
Enter Hosanna Lutheran Church in Littleton, Colorado. We are a proud participant of the Angel Tree program, which provides gifts for children with incarcerated parents. Through the program, children throughout Littleton will receive one clothing item and one toy during the Holiday season. Last year, we also donated laundry baskets filled with non-perishable food items. The families truly appreciated this and we hope to expand the baskets in 2010!
Our Angel Tree season kicks off Thanksgiving weekend with the arrival of the Christmas tree in the Narthex, decorated with "angel" ornaments. Each ornament bears the name, age, and gift wishes of a child or teen. We purchase the gifts on behalf of the parent and deliver the gifts to the family. We will also be collecting non-perishable food items to accompany our gifts.
Hosanna members have traditionally supported this program with much enthusiasm and I am sure this year will not be the exception. However, the program is in need of many volunteers to be truly successful. There are many areas of need:
Setting up the Christmas tree with the Angel Tree ornaments
Food Basket Coordinator
Representatives at Saturday and Sunday services
Gift Sorters
Drivers for delivery
Please contact Melissa Johnson if you can volunteer some time. Hosanna needs your help with this worthwhile program!
